Sr. Beta 2007-2008

The Leake Academy Junior Beta Club sponsored a food drive for the Leake Baptist Association. The whole school participated by bringing a variety of foods.

The Senior Beta/Sr. Honor Society is an honor society with academics and service to others as a priority.  Students must have a average of 85 to be a member.  Senior Beta sponsors projects at school to promote character and in the community to reach out to those in need.  They also assist with school functions and activities.

The Junior/Senior Beta and Junior/Senior Christian Student Organizations of Leake Academy are sponsoring a food drive for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. We would like to encourage your children to bring non-perishable food items to school by Tuesday, September 13. Members of the organizations will collect the items from the elementary classrooms.  Some suggested items include boxes of crackers, peanut butter, dry cereals, and instant grits or oatmeal in addition to canned foods such as canned meats, pastas, fruits and such. Please send anything that would be easy and simple to prepare. Thank you very much for your contributions. Our collected food will be delivered to the Salvation Army store in Carthage.

Continue to pray for the victims of the hurricane as well as those who are working to restore services. Also, remember those who are volunteering their services in any way.

Junior Beta/Honor Society is an organization that promotes academic excellence as well as being a service organization.  We hope to build better citizens for the future by encouraging character, service to others, and leadership.

Some of the service projects that we participate in are as follows:

organizing seasonal cards and gifts at Christmas for nursing home residents and hospice patients

Once again the Leake Academy Jr. Beta has chosen to support the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The Jr. Beta members have already raised over $650. JDRF was founded in 1970 by parents of children with juvenile diabetes-- a disease that strikes children suddenly, makes them insulin dependent for life, and carries the constant threat of devastating complications. No one outgrows juvenile diabetes. The only way out is a cure. The mission of JDRF is constant: to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research.
Several of the students will be participating in the JDRF "Walk to Cure Diabetes" on Saturday, October 22, 2005. They are planning to walk in support of Kaitlan Sudduth, a sixth grader here at LA, and the many other children with juvenile diabetes. The walk will be held at Mayes Lake at LeFleur's Bluff State Park in Jackson. Sign in begins at 9:00AM and the walk begins at 10:00AM. Breakfast and lunch will be served and there will be many fun activities for the children. Our walk team had a wonderful time last year and we hope that you will join us this year in our "Walk for a Cure".
Please contact Shelia Sudduth at (601) 267-4629 if you have any questions regarding JDRF or the "Walk to Cure Diabetes".
